Team Barrett from Konjuli Droughtmasters loaded the truck and made their annual pilgrimage to the National Droughtmaster Sale at the Gracemere Saleyards, near Rockhampton, last month. However, this year, there was a significant difference to the usual team on board.
You see, Konjuli GJ Anakin was offered for sale by junior stud members Grace and Jade Barrett, themselves 4th generation Droughtmaster breeders.
The Barrett girls raised, prepared and worked out the costs involved with bringing a bull to the sales, before Jade (14) eventually stepped into the sale ring for the first time, before proud (and excited) parents Sean and Evonne. While older sister Grace could not attend owing to her Year 11 exam block, she was happy to hear that Konjuli GJ Anakin had sold for $4,000. No doubt Gracemere will be seeing a lot more of the Barrett girls at future sales.
Sean and Evonne Barrett themselves sold 4 of their Konjuli bulls at an average of $4,000, in a market that was described as a buyer’s market, with prices significantly down on the previous year.
Despite the difficult conditions so many are experiencing 439 bulls sold, at a total value of just under $3.7 million, an overall clearance rate of 89%.
Sean said of the sale “…our buyers remarked that they were surprised to get such quality bulls at a bargain price. Given that we market them as ‘quality bulls at reasonable prices’, it’s really great to get that feedback from our customers.”
The future looks good for team Barrett, their mighty Konjuli bulls, oh and generation next, of course.
